Has anyone tried the over the counter weight-loss drug, Alli (orlistat)?
This used to be a prescription drug under the name Xenical (I think). It works by decreasing the amount of fat absorbed in your intestines, however, it supposedly has nasty side effects of "diarrhea, fatty stools, fecal incontinance, flatulence, etc." Has anyone out there tried it, how do you think it works for losing weight and are the side effects as bad as they sound?

- Diet pills aren't necessary. I don't recommend them to anyone who asks me about them. Alli, as most of the doctors who supervised the trial studies will tell you, cause the symptoms you said, things having to deal with anal leakage. To me, having to walk a mile extra or cutting back on the chocolate is a lot easier than having to change underwear every few hours. Granted, I have never tried this. Keep in mind I am not speaking from experience, so if you wish, don't listen to me. I'm against diet pills and surgeries that attempt to make you thinner, though, so I could be being a little harsh on this pill. I just think our advancements in medication should be focused more on a one hundred percent effective cure for things like cancer and AIDS, rather than the formation of a pill to make you lose weight when the answer is simple: diet and exercise. It's your choice if you'd like to use this pill. I don't know from person experience if it helps or harms. But I still don't recommend it.
- It works IF ... you are actually overweight and you also eat healthy and exercise while using it. It is supposed to aid you in weight loss and speed up the process. You can't have a poor diet and expect it to work. And yes the side effects are just as nasty as you described. =P But it's safe and it can help you become healthier!
- I have a friend who has tried it. And although the side affects can be harsh, such as the ones you mentioned, she did not have any of them. She did say that it was easier to "go". Basically it was just softer. She has lost weight and looks good. I tried a similar product years ago. It was called something else but worked the same way. And I had the same outcome as the friend mentioned above. Good Luck!!!
